CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi city leaders have officially recognized May as Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month, in a heartfelt city council ceremony that paid tribute to CCPD Senior Officer Vicente Ortiz. 

Ortiz was tragically hit and thrown from his motorcycle while working a funeral procession in May of 2024, he died ten days later.

Mayor Paulette Guajardo read the official proclamation before Ortiz’s family, colleagues, and the city council during Tuesday’s meeting. 
The moment served as both a solemn tribute and a public reminder to stay vigilant and watch for motorcyclists on the road.

“I do hearby proclaim 2025 motorcycle safety & awareness month is Corpus Christi, Texas”

Ortiz’s parents and fellow officers were in attendance to accept the proclamation on his behalf.

“Its an honor to be here with the famiy.. i can say that they are very very grateful for this proclomation wed like to thanks everyone the mayor.. city council.. just keep the family in your prayers please.”

Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month aims to encourage all drivers to look twice and stay alert. 

It’s a timely reminder that awareness can save lives.
