Statewide – Is your organization committed to saving lives and improving public safety in your community? Are you an advocate for cultivating safer driving behaviors on our roadways? If so, consider applying for funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) to bring your traffic safety project from concept to reality.
Grant applications should focus on addressing the state’s most serious traffic safety problems, including: impaired driving; not wearing seatbelts; lack of or improper use of child safety seats; distracted driving; speeding; aggressive driving; pedestrian, bicycle, and/or motorcycle safety; high rates of crashes at railroad and highway crossings; inaccurate or incomplete data about traffic crashes; or lack of knowledge of community traffic safety practices. Successful grants will describe how the applicant will assist LHSC to achieve its mission by improving and/or expanding on current traffic safety initiatives or implementing new programs or countermeasures to address one or more of the stated problems. Funding awards are for a one-year period to commence on October 1, 2026 and continue through September 30, 2027.
Eligible applicants for traffic safety grants include local, parish, and state agencies, including: law enforcement offices and school boards; individual primary and secondary schools; nonprofit organizations; institutions of higher education; hospitals or similar healthcare facilities; highway safety advocacy groups; private businesses with a focus on public and/or highway safety; and individuals with subject matter expertise.
LHSC will utilize its comprehensive e-grant management system to accept funding applications and facilitate the contracting process for grants that are awarded. The web-based application portal will open on February 1, 2026 and will remain accessible until February 28, 2026. Applicants must use the e-grant system only and must submit applications by 11:59 p.m. CT on Feb. 28. Late or incomplete proposals will not be considered.
Applicants will be expected to utilize crash data and other relevant traffic records for problem identification. To access detailed information on problem identification, go to https://www.lahighwaysafety.org/, and select “Apply for A Grant” from the menu at the top of the page. From there, applicants will also find the FFY 2027 Call for Grant Applications, Problem Id Summary table, additional requirements, the archived training video, and the web link to the e-grant application portal.
Funds for this grant program comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As the official State Highway Safety Office, LHSC selects and oversees NHTSA-funded projects in Louisiana.
