Boise, ID (CBS2) — Motorcycle enthusiasts and law enforcement officers from Canada, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho gathered Wednesday to emphasize the importance of safe riding practices amid a concerning increase in motorcycle crashes this year compared to last.
“What we’ve been noticing with better weather is a lot of aggressive riding,” said Deputy Jeremy Seibert, urging riders to be cautious and watch out for aggressive behavior on the roads.
The Boise Police Department reported 16 motorcycle crashes since January, including one fatality. At this time last year, there were 12 crashes. Authorities are encouraging all drivers and riders to prioritize safety by wearing proper protective gear, staying visible, and exercising caution, particularly when making left-hand turns.
“A lot of it has to do with inattention,” said Deputy Seibert , highlighting the need for vigilance to avoid accidents.
The event, which offers opportunities to learn more about motorcycle safety and even participate in ride-alongs, concludes Thursday.
