(KMDL-FM) If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast, then we are in your prime time in Louisiana. The weather is about as good as it’s going to be for enjoying the wind in your face and the bugs in your teeth. That’s the good news. The bad news is that a major manufacturer of some of your favorite two-wheel models is recalling almost 20,000 of its bikes.

The reason for the recall is one that I would say is important. The recall notice suggests that during the course of operation of the motorcycle, the rider could lose the ability to steer. Steering and stopping, I consider those to be important, don’t you?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration values those as important attributes for motorcycle operators as well. At least one could be led to believe that based on the notice that was posted on the NHTSA website.

Why Are More Than 19,000 Motorcycles Being Recalled?
The issue that is the catalyst for the recall is that the handlebar lock screw could loosen and detach. The detached screw could then become lodged between the frame and the stem, which would interfere with the rider’s ability to steer the bike. The inability to maintain control of the motorcycle could lead to a crash, and that could result in injury or death.
So, if you’ve always thought some of the folks who ride motorcycles “have a screw loose,” in this case, they actually might. Here are the brands and the models that are affected by this recall notice.
