Authorities said the motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and struck a tree.

A New Orleans man died early Tuesday morning after his motorcycle struck a tree in St. Bernard Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

The crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 46 near Chalmette Avenue.

Investigators said 51-year-old Antonio Verrett was riding a 2014 Honda CBR 1000RR eastbound on Highway 46 when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the motorcycle. Verrett was ejected from the bike and struck a tree.

Although he was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved helmet, Verrett suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is standard in fatal crashes, a toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis. The investigation remains ongoing.

Louisiana State Police are reminding motorcyclists to prioritize safety and consider enrolling in an approved motorcycle safety course to help sharpen riding skills and reduce the risk of serious crashes. More information about motorcycle safety training is available on the Louisiana State Police’s website.
