
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) – Experienced riders can apply for Share the Road, the Springfield Police Department Traffic Section’s civilian motorcycle course.
This free, one-day course provides motorcyclists with the tools to become better riders, ultimately reducing the number of motorcycle crashes. The next course is Saturday, September 6. Share the Road covers advanced riding techniques, motorcycle handling, object avoidance, and other essential skills that help current riders stay safer on the road.
Interest applications must be received by Thursday, Sept. 4, at noon.
To participate, riders must have the following qualifications and equipment:
- A valid motorcycle endorsement (not a permit)
- A motorcycle (250cc or greater, no three-wheel variety). All motorcycles must have legal exhaust and legal handlebars (i.e., no “ape hangers”). All motorcycles must be street legal and subject to inspection.
- Motorcycle insurance
- A legal DOT-approved helmet
- Eye protection
- Footwear that covers the ankles
- Proper motorcycle attire
- Optional equipment – armored or padded motorcycle gear
- Signed liability waiver
The final course offered in 2025 will be on October 11.
