TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Police Department has been awarded over $100,000 in federal funding to enhance traffic safety enforcement throughout the city.
The $102,252.40 grant, announced by the Toledo police on Monday, was provided by the Ohio Traffic Safety Office through the Ohio Criminal Justice Services and is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It will cover officer salaries during targeted enforcement efforts beginning in October 2025.
According to the department, the initiative will focus on reducing dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, impaired driving, and failure to use seat belts. Motorcycle safety and youth driver education are also key priorities.
Enforcement will take place citywide, with special emphasis on major corridors and areas that have seen higher numbers of serious and fatal crashes. The Toledo Police Department will work alongside other law enforcement agencies as well as local and state safety organizations to maximize the program’s impact.
Toledo police said the grant provides critical support to help reduce roadway injuries and fatalities in Toledo.
