PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – The United Bikers of Maine are celebrating 50 years of promoting motorcycle safety, awareness, and advocacy.
As more bikes hit the roads during the summer months, members say one reminder remains key: “Look twice, save a life.” The organization was formed to give riders a voice, and five decades later, they’re still working to improve safety and visibility on the road.
“Biker safety starts with being aware of the two and three-wheel vehicles that are out on the road because we are everywhere this time of year, and not everyone knows to just take a second look before pulling out into the road or taking that left-hand turn across the median. That’s where a lot of us end up getting hit because we’re just not as obvious on the road as a four-door vehicle. First thing people say after an accident is,”Oh! I didn’t see them,“” says Donna Rich, United Bikers of Maine Aroostook County Assistant Director.
Riders encourage all drivers to stay alert, practice defensive driving, and help make the roads safer for everyone.
