With reduced hours at two Redstone gates, the chief of the Protection Division in the Garrison’s Directorate of Emergency Services, said “we are looking at many different courses of action” to mitigate traffic issues on post.
Gate 3 on Redstone Road closes at
1 p.m., and Gate 8 on Goss Road closes to traffic during the work week.
“We’re working with the senior command and the Garrison command and up the chain,” Brian Reinwald said at the Sept. 17 Redstone Community Update.
“Unfortunately though, a lot of these (options) require additional personnel and that requires exceptions to policy be approved up higher outside the Garrison and that takes time. … It may require a change to federal law so that all takes time to get pushed up, get the right people to approve it.”
He asked for patience from commuters in the meantime.
“We are doing the best we can to try and get more people on board and get gates back open so we can mitigate some of these traffic issues on the installation.”
Reinwald said he sees the comments made through the Interactive Customer Evaluation system. “I appreciate everybody’s concerns about how those changes have impacted traffic here on the installation and outside the gates on the installation,” he said.

Sheldon Richburg, the general manager at the Exchange, reported that the newest restaurant at the Exchange, Rocket City Bowls, has opened in the main food court. It offers ramen and poke bowls. Also, massage chairs have been added to the Exchange hallway by the Commissary.
The Goss Road Express remodel work was scheduled to start on Sept. 18, Richburg said, and “that construction is slated to conclude in December.”
