The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation wants to help reduce the number of statewide traffic fatalities, and it needs your help.
By participating in an online survey about traffic safety, you can help influence PennDOT’s next safety campaign and ultimately help save lives.
The online survey takes about five minutes to complete and covers topics including seat belt use; impaired driving; speeding; distracted driving; and bicycle, pedestrian, and motorcycle safety.
All responses are anonymous. The deadline to participate is Feb. 28.
Previous survey results have directly influenced safety campaigns. Data from the 2023 survey showed many respondents were influenced by family to make safer choices behind the wheel, leading PennDOT to create a media campaign featuring Pennsylvania State Police troopers urging viewers to buckle up for loved ones. The campaign will return in May during the national “Click It or Ticket” enforcement period.
PennDOT announced last spring that highway fatalities dropped to 1,127 in 2024, marking the second lowest total since record keeping began in 1928 and 82 fewer deaths than in 2023.
Preliminary data for 2025 indicates fatalities have decreased for the second consecutive year, though complete numbers will not be available until spring 2026.
“While a decrease in fatalities is certainly good news, we need your help to continue this downward trend,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “Even one life lost is one too many, but we’ll only get to zero with your help.”
The Shapiro Administration invests nearly $30 million annually in federal grant funds for traffic safety programs, partnering with educational and enforcement organizations to deliver programming aimed at preventing crashes, fatalities, and injuries.
