Tombstone Marshal’s Office
The Tombstone Marshal’s Office is proud to announce that it has been awarded $19,335 in highway safety grants from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (AZGOHS). This funding will support DUI enforcement, speed enforcement, officer training, and upgraded equipment to improve roadway safety during the holiday season, school-year events, and major community events. These funds will be used in the following areas:
Impaired Driving Enforcement – $10,286. This grant supports overtime for DUI enforcement operations, equipment, materials, and blood-evidence kits, Intoxilyzer repair and maintenance, advanced DUI training and related travel, and active participation in the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force. This funding strengthens the Marshal’s Office’s continued efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve traffic safety for residents and visitors.
Speed Enforcement – $9,049. This grant provides support for overtime for targeted speed-enforcement patrols, new stationary and moving radar equipment, enforcement in school zones, bus routes, and high-risk corridors such as SR-80, Charleston Road, and Davis Road. These resources give deputies the tools needed to address speeding, aggressive driving, and roadway hazards throughout the year.
Community Impact: These grants strengthen the Tombstone Marshal’s Office in several keyways such as increased patrol coverage during high-risk travel periods, improved officer capabilities through upgraded technology and training, enhanced coordination with regional enforcement partners, and greater emphasis on preventing DUI- and speed-related crashes.
The Tombstone Marshal’s Office extends its appreciation to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for supporting these important public-safety efforts.
About the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Funding: The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) funds programs aimed at enhancing road safety. The programs address critical areas such as Speed and Reckless Driving, Impaired Driving, Occupant protection, Motorcycle Safety and Pedestrian/bicycle safety. Progress Summary: In compliance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) guidelines, the GOHS has developed and launched the Arizona Triennial Highway Safety Plan (3HSP). This comprehensive plan provides funding and support to internal and external partners across the state, with a central focus on reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. GOHS remains strategically focused on key highway safety issues, guided by the values of Collaboration, Data-Driven Decision-Making, Innovation, and Accountability. The 3HSP fosters strong partnerships among stakeholders and actively engages the public in efforts to enhance roadway safety. As part of its commitment to improving data accuracy and timeliness, GOHS successfully secured a $7.3 million State Electronic Data Collection Grant. This funding will support law enforcement agencies in submitting crash reports more efficiently to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), enabling more accurate tracking of traffic fatalities.
