You or someone you know may ride a motorcycle in Colorado. While I do not ride, I know plenty of people who do. One of the biggest concerns for many is the rider’s safety.

While many motorcyclists ride safely on Colorado’s roads, some tend to be daredevils, often disregarding caution while on a bike. A few of the best ways to stay safe while riding a motorcycle are to be aware of your surroundings and always wear a helmet.

Some motorcyclists can be a bit superstitious when it comes to riding the roads, and any little bit of good luck has never hurt anyone. Chances are, you might have seen this good luck charm on a motorcycle or two while you are on the road.

The Gremlin Bell on Motorcycles in Colorado

The gremlin bell has many names, including the Guardian Bell, or spirit bell. No matter the name, they all serve the same purpose. This good luck charm that can be found on the lowest part of the motorcycle is said to ward off harmful spirits that lurk on the roadways, protecting the rider on their travels. These bells capture the harmful spirits inside the hollow of the bell, making them mad with the constant ringing, until they release their hold and fall off.

The Rules of a Gremlin Bell on a Motorcycle

A motorcycle rider cannot simply purchase a bell and put it on their motorcycle; that is not how it works. The gremlin bell needs to be given to the rider by a loved one, especially another rider. This is how the bell’s special powers are activated.

The bell then needs to be attached to the lowest part of the motorcycle’s frame to grab onto the lurking spirits on the roadways. Zip ties are normally used to attach the gremin bell as wire can scratch and rust the motorcycle.

What Happens When You Sell a Motorcycle?

The bell should stay with the rider and not the motorcycle. When the time comes to sell your current motorcycle, the bell should be removed and kept with the person it was given to. However, if the person selling the motorcycle wants to give the bell to the buyer of the motorcycle, they can do so, but the bell needs to be removed and given to the person face-to-face.

What if a Gremlin Bell is Stolen?

In the unfortunate event that the gremlin bell is stolen, the gremlins and bad spirits go with the bell and no longer keep them away. You see, the bell’s power is for the good of the rider. If the bell is stolen, all of the power is lost, and karma will eventually do its thing to the person who stole it.
