The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau administers federal highway safety funds for the State of Iowa and is offering an opportunity to apply for traffic safety grant funding.

For federal fiscal year 2027 (October 1, 2026 – September 30, 2027), the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau has reserved up to $10 million dollars to target traffic safety projects.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s mission is to identify traffic safety issues and, through partnerships with city, county, state, and local organizations, develop and implement strategies to reduce deaths and injuries on Iowa’s roadways.

In 2025, Iowa experienced the lowest number of traffic-related fatalities in more than a century, reflecting the collective impact of strong partnerships, data-driven strategies, and sustained investment in traffic safety. The projects selected through this funding opportunity will continue to build on that progress and contribute to the safety of all Iowans on our roadways.
