
Chandler Police offer motorcycle safety course
The Chandler Police Department is offering a motorcycle safety course from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 25 at the Chandler Public Safety Training Center, 3550 S. Dobson, Chandler.
Officers will go over the safety operations of a motorcycle and the event is open to all riders, no matter how little or how much experience they have.

Casteel splits into two separate schools
Chandler Unified School District is splitting Casteel into two schools starting next school year. Going forward, it will be Casteel High School and Casteel Junior High .
The high school will include grades 9-12, and the junior high will accommodate grades 7-8.
Chandler Education Foundation to offer $200K in scholarships
The Chandler Education Foundation has opened its application process to award more than $200,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors.
The scholarships range from $500 to $5,000. The deadline to apply is March 24 and recipients will be notified by late April.

Sister Cities contest seeks teen authors, artists
Youth artists and authors who are Chandler residents between 12 and 18 years of age are invited to participate in the annual Young Artists & Authors Showcase sponsored by Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities and Sister Cities International.
The deadline is March 1. There is no entry fee, and there are cash prizes awarded to both Chandler and international winners.
The showcase theme for 2025 is “Friendship: The Heartbeat of Global Peace,” highlighting “the power of friendship to foster understanding, collaboration, and peace across borders.”
Showcase Chair Laurie Fagen said, “We are looking for students from across Chandler whether in public, charter, homeschool or other educational and art settings to take part.”

Drunk driver gets 11 years in Chandler fatal hit-run
Keith James Taylor, 37, of Scottsdale will spend the next 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident in Ocotillo.
On Nov. 27, 2023, Taylor was driving eastbound on Ocotillo Road when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing in a marked crosswalk at a canal crossing near McQueen Road. The pedestrian died from her injuries. Taylor fled the scene and later abandoned his vehicle after crashing into another car at a nearby intersection.
Chandler Police located Taylor and had a blood alcohol concentration of more than twice the legal limit.
Chandler Senior Expo offers over 50 organizations
The free Chandler Senior Expo will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Avion Conference Center, 1733 E. Northrop Blvd., Chandler.
On hand will be representatives of over 50 organizations that specialize in assistance and care for seniors in Chandler, such as assisted living, Alzheimer’s information, home care, veterans benefits, mobility solutions, Medicare and more.
There will be a variety of free health screenings for attendees plus, hourly prize drawings, plenty of giveaways and complimentary refreshments.

Chandler asks residents to serve on boards, commissions
The City of Chandler seeks volunteers who are willing to serve on its boards, commissions and committees.
They are seeking volunteers for each body, from the Airport Commission to the Workers’ Compensation and Employer Liability Trust Board. That’s 30 different groups to cover most special interests and expertise.

New Song Center seeks volunteers
The New Song Center for Grieving Children is offering volunteer training on Jan. 25, 28 and 30. Volunteers help families heal after the death of a loved one. They work with parents and youth ages 5-25 who seek support at one of five Valley locations.
