Did you know that in Arizona, motorcycle lane filtering is legal? Some motorists are still not aware of this and occasionally we hear grumbling from drivers when a motorcyclist comes up between cars stopped at a red light.

Irritated drivers might think that they’re trying to sneak or cut to the front of the line. However, lane filtering, also known as lane splitting, became law in the state in 2022 in an effort to reduce the risk of a motorcycle being hit from behind. It’s easier to avoid being hit from the side so motorcyclists are allowed to move up front between cars when they come up to a red light.
