UPPER MICHIGAN (WLUC) – May is motorcycle safety awareness month. This month marks the season when many cyclists return to the road after winter.

As the weather warms and more riders are out, remember to actively look for bikers and leave a couple car-lengths between you and them. Bald Eagle Harley-Davidson General Manager “Mac” McAdam says motorcyclists depend on driver’s vigilance.

“Consciously be looking for motorcycles,” said McAdam. “Ask yourself, ‘Is there a motorcycle?’ So that you get used to seeing them. Because initially you haven’t seen them all winter long, so you might not recognize it or jump out that there’s a bike right there.”

The Christian Riders Association will be hosting a bike blessing May 10. Later this summer, the Great Lakes Harley-Davidson Rally will take place in Marquette the last weekend of June. McAdam says some riders will even take their hogs from the west coast for this rally.
