Motorcycle riders in Hagerstown can learn safety skills from law enforcement officers through a free program starting May 1.
Maryland MOTORS (Motor Officers Teaching Other Riders Safety) is scheduled to be held Fridays at the D.M. Bowman Family Workforce Training Center, 562 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, according to an announcement from Hagerstown Community College’s Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education division.
The one-day course includes classroom instruction, a mentored street ride with motorcycle officers and low-speed practice of riding skills on a closed range. The program is operated by Maryland state and local law enforcement agencies through the Zero Deaths Maryland Highway Safety Office and is part of the Maryland Department of Transportation’s “Serious About Safety” initiative.
Hands-on training for all experience levels
“HCC has helped thousands of riders develop skills and obtain their license through the MVA’s Motorcycle Safety program,” Jack Drooger, senior program manager for workforce solutions, said in the announcement. “This is an opportunity to give back to the motorcycle community and create safer roads for all motorists.”
The program is designed for motorcyclists of all experience levels and aims to provide hands-on education to ensure safety on the roads, according to the announcement.
