BUFFALO, N.Y. — May is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and on Saturday, local officials kicked off motorcycle safety and awareness for the riding season.

American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) want all drivers to be aware of motorcyclists. They are asking people to be alert behind the wheel and to avoid distractions that can lead to accidents.

The message Saturday during the 35th annual Safety & Awareness Run was look twice and save a life.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz among the people who attended Saturday’s event.

“It might have been a rainy day but that didn’t stop the Buffalo-Erie County Chapter of ABATE-NY from holding its annual motorcycle awareness ride to remind all motorcycle season has returned to WNY. Thank you to the ABATE members who braved the rain and rode today,” he posted to social media.

The event started around 11:30 a.m. in front of Old County Hall.
