This week’s motorcyclist fatality in Essex County comes just three weeks after a motorcycle crash near the WFCU Centre in east Windsor on Sunday evening killed a 51-year-old man.

Windsor police were dispatched to the 8700 block of McHugh Street shortly after 8 p.m. on May 11, following reports of a single-vehicle collision. Police determined that the motorcyclist was travelling westbound on McHugh Street when the motorcycle veered out of control and slammed into a bridge guardrail.

At the start of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Week earlier in May, the Ontario Provincial Police pointed to a record 57 motorcyclist deaths reported on OPP-patrolled roads in 2024. Several of those fatalities occurred in Windsor and Essex County.

“Motorcycle season commands our absolute safest driving practices, heightened vigilance and adherence to traffic laws that are designed to keep all road users safe — especially vulnerable motorcyclists and their passengers,” Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrique said in a statement at the time.
