(Undated)–Drivers around the area will be sharing the road – and their lane – with motorcyclists beginning today (Tuesday) on Minnesota highways. State Motorcycle Safety Coordinator Jay Bock says lane splitting is now allowed on roadways when two or more lanes of traffic are traveling in the same direction.
He says “traffic is moving kind of slow, motorcyclists can split out and share that lane up to 25 miles an hour up to the front of the line.” He goes on to say that if traffic is stopped, “they can do the same thing but they only do it at 15 miles an hour.”
Bock says sharing the lane when traffic comes to halt is known as lane filtering.
