MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – On April 17, people held signs on Highway 158, begging drivers to watch for motorcycles.

This came just days after a car collided head-on with four motorcycles, killing three people on Highway 158.

The group stood near the tragic scene with signs saying, “watch for motorcycles.”

Chris Best, also known as Biker Dad, advocate for motorcycle safety, said the goal is to get the message to those behind the wheel.

“We tell it to each other all the time, but we’re on the bike so we don’t need to hear it,” Best said. “All the people driving by on this road where the tragedy happened need to hear it.”

As vehicles passed by, horns were honked at those holding the signs, letting them know they’re seen and heard.

According to Noel Leonard, a personal injury lawyer and motorcycle safety advocate, seeing the deaths of bikers after a crash is heartbreaking.

“When you’re on a motorcycle, you’re exposed,” Leonard said. “We’re kind of at people’s mercy and we need people to be looking out.”

Leonard and Best said they have both lost dear biker friends who were involved in a crash. That’s why they continue to urge drivers to be mindful when driving near a motorcycle. It could save their life, and even yours.

Best said he drove down Highway 158 just an hour before the crash.

He said he’s hoping to bring more people together for pop-up rallies to continue to spread the word.
