GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Mesa County is hosting a weekend event focused on safety and fun.

The Crime Stoppers Car and Motorcycle Show and Cycle Safety Fest returns Saturday (4/18), giving families a chance to learn more about sharing the road.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mesa County Fairgrounds and features motorcycle demos, bike rodeos, safety checks and interactive activities for kids.

“We will be taking part of the Cycle Safety Fest event, which is in coordination also with the Crime Stoppers Car Show,” said Taylor Schreiner, traffic sergeant with the Grand Junction Police Department. “This is a great community event where you can come out. You can get a first ride experience on a motorcycle. You can do a motorcycle safety check. There’s also a motorcycle intro. That’s one kind of aspect to it. But there’s also a bicycle aspect to it as well. We’ll have a bike rodeo out there as well as BMX rides. For kids as young as 3-year-olds can come out and test drive some BMX bicycles.”

The event will include several presentations throughout the day and a question and answer time with local motor officers.

“If you just want to ask them some questions about the motorcycles that they’re riding, come out and try and stump them and ask them some questions,” Schreiner said. “And, you know, just anything we can do to make our community safer.”

Organizers said the goal is to bring motor enthusiasts, riders and drivers together while giving the community a chance to ask questions and learn how to stay safe on the road.

“A huge thank you to Crime Stoppers for allowing this event to coincide with their Crime Stoppers car show,” Schreiner said. “You know, it’s going to be a great event. There’s going to be a lot of cars out there, a lot of people. There will be food trucks out there. Hopefully, we have some good weather. But yeah, bring your family out and learn some safety tips and, you know, come say hi to our motor officers out there.”
