Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino has lauded President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for signing Republic Act (RA) 12209, that amended the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.

Tolentino, the law’s principal sponsor, called it a “victory” for motorcycle riders, highlighting the removal of the double license plate requirement and reduced fines.

“I leave the Senate full of gratitude seeing this landmark law finally being signed for millions of our kababayans who rely on their motorcycle daily,” said Tolentino who failed to get re-elected.

“This is another legacy of the 19th Congress for our people,” the lawmaker added.

Tolentino noted that RA 12209 removed the double license plate mandate and reduced the excessive fines and penalties under RA 11235, the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.

The law also gave the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to close its backlog in the distribution of license plates until June 30, 2026.
